The funding opportunities listed below may be applicable to state programs or to local chapters- particularly those with nonprofit status:
- ConocoPhillips & National Fish and Wildlife Foundation SPIRIT of Conservation Bird Habitat Program: To provide grants for bird habitat conservation projects in areas where ConocoPhillips has an operating presence. Closing date for pre-proposal 09/01/07.
- Shell Oil and National Fish & Wildlife Foundation Shell Marine Habitat Program: For wetland conservation & restoration along the coasts of Texas- Louisiana- Mississippi- and Alabama- and the gulf coast of Florida from Tampa north & west through the panhandle. Projects of particular interest include those that protect or restore estuarine habitat- projects that provide opportunities for hands-on participation of volunteers- and projects in communities where Shell has facilities. Closing date 09/01/07.
- National Forest Foundation Community Assistance Program to Support Local Forest Partnerships : Promotes creation of locally based forest partnerships building ecological- social- & economic sustainability. Supports newly forming nonprofit organizations needing start-up capacity-building that intend to proactively & inclusively engage the local community in forest management & conservation issues on and around National Forests and Grasslands. Closing date 09/07/07.
- NFWF Pulling Together Initiative: Support for formation of local Weed Management Area (WMA) partnerships. These partnerships engage federal resource agencies- state and local governments- private landowners- and other interested parties in developing long-term weed management projects within the scope of an integrated pest management strategy. The goals of PTI are to prevent- manage- or eradicate invasive & noxious plants through a coordinated program of public/private partnerships; and to increase public awareness of adverse impacts of invasive & noxious plants. 1:1 partner match required. Closing date for pre-proposals 10/26/07.
- B.A.S.S. Federation Nation & National Fish and Wildlife Foundation More Fish Fund: For community-based aquatic restoration projects that involve volunteers- youth- & anglers- to improve awareness about aquatic resources by supporting grassroots capacity building & habitat conservation. Projects include aquatic habitat restoration & protection- water quality improvement- aquatic vegetation management- landowner outreach & stewardship training- and watershed planning & management. 1:1 funding match required. Closing date 11/01/07.
- National Wildlife Refuge Preserve America Grant Program: To foster interpretive- education & visitor initiatives that incorporate history and historic sites into the Refuge System`s mission. Program seeks to protect historic sites- integrate history into refuge interpretive & education programs- and build partnerships with communities & organizations interested in supporting Refuge programs. Closing date 11/01/07.
- Chesapeake Bay Trust Stewardship and Education Grants: Stewardship Grants Program provides resources to watershed associations- citizen groups- and volunteers who work to protect and preserve the Chesapeake Bay and its rivers through on-the- ground restoration and demonstration projects; two categories: 1) Restoration (grants of between $5-001 and $35-000 each); and 2) Outreach (grants of between $5-001 and $15-000 each). Environmental Education Grants Program provides funds to K-12 schools- universities- nonprofit organizations- and agencies for projects that increase environmental education initiatives; two categories: 1) Green School Grounds (grants of between $5-001 and $15-000 each); and 2) Expanded Bay and River Education Program (grant awards of between $5-001 and $35-000 each). Closing date 12/07/07.
- USFWS National Fish Habitat Action Plan: To protect- restore & enhance fish & aquatic communities through partnerships that foster fish habitat conservation. Fish Habitat Partnerships are the primary work units of the Action Plan- formed around distinct geographic areas- “keystone” fish species- or system types (large lakes- impoundments- estuaries). Funds will support national and regional coordination activities- as well as cost-shared projects to protect- restore- or enhance fish habitats. All or a portion of project funds may be transferred to partner organizations if the Service lacks the capability to implement a project. The only projects eligible for consideration and funding are fish habitat projects ranked highly by Fish Habitat Partnerships. NO closing date; proposals accepted continuously.
- FishAmerica Foundation Conservation Grants: Funds hands-on- action-oriented projects with clear benefits to sport fish populations and the sport of fishing done by non-profit organizations such as conservation groups- sporting clubs- civic associations- and state agencies. Projects may include habitat improvement- streambank stabilization- litter cleanups- revegetation; average award is $7500. NO closing date; applications accepted year-round.
